Information about telemedicine consultations
As part of our services, we offer secure telemedicine consultations to provide accessible, high-quality medical care. This guide outlines what to expect, the benefits, risks, and limitations of telemedicine consultations, so you can make an informed decision before providing consent.
Nature of telemedicine consultations
- A telemedicine consultation allows you to speak with a clinician via video call or telephone without needing to attend an in-person appointment.
- It is suitable for many types of medical consultations, including adjunctive care provision, discussion of test results, and general health advice.
- Your clinician will take your medical history, review any necessary documents, and provide guidance just as in an in-person consultation.
- If at any point the clinician determines that an in-person consultation would be more appropriate, you will be offered one.
- If required, you may be referred for further in-person assessments, tests, or treatments.
How we verify your identity
To ensure security and accuracy, we require:
- A clear scan or photo of a government-issued ID to be submitted before your consultation.
- Completion of a pre-consultation medical questionnaire.
- Live identity confirmation at the start of the consultation, where your clinician will verify that you match the ID provided.
Benefits of telemedicine consultations
- Convenience and accessibility - attend from anywhere, reducing travel time and costs. Invite family and friends to join from their location.
- Flexible scheduling - more appointment availability to fit your needs.
- Continuity of care - enables follow-ups and ongoing monitoring without requiring in-person visits.
- Secure and confidential - we use encrypted video conferencing software to ensure patient privacy.
Risks and limitations of telemedicine consultations
Not suitable for all situations - in certain situations, the patient may benefit from an in-person visit. If this is the case, we will contact you to discuss and advise accordingly.
Technical issues - internet connectivity problems or software glitches may disrupt the consultation.
Data security - despite encryption, online communication carries a minimal risk of data interception.
Delayed escalation - if an urgent issue arises, an in-person assessment may be necessary, which could delay treatment.
Platform and security information
Lucio Health uses a secure, encrypted video platform that meets GDPR and healthcare data security standards.
- End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) ensures private communication.
- Restricted access and authentication prevent unauthorised entry into consultations.
- No consultation data is stored on external servers to maintain confidentiality.
- AI-assisted documentation or transcription tools may be used to support accurate clinical note-taking. Any such tools are used solely to assist documentation and all outputs remain subject to clinician review and approval in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
When to seek in-person care instead
You should seek urgent in-person medical attention instead of a telemedicine consultation if you experience:
- Severe or sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, or neurological symptoms (e.g., loss of consciousness, weakness in limbs).
- Uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain, or signs of a serious infection.
- Any other emergency symptoms requiring immediate assessment.

Patient acknowledgment and consent
By scheduling a telemedicine consultation, you confirm that you:

- Understand that a separate Consent to Treatment Form will be reviewed and discussed with you by your consulting physician, and needs to be completed during/after your consultation before any prescriptions can be issued.
